We call these “grape jelly meatballs”, as that’s the secret ingredient. These are absolutely delicious! I also use this same meatball recipe for other things. Substitute spaghetti sauce for the grape jelly and chili sauce to make spaghetti and meatballs or meatball sandwiches. Try mixing a can of cream of tomato soup, half can of milk, add in the meatballs, and serve over egg noodles. Great item to keep on hand in the freezer.
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs (I use Italian style)
1/3 cup minced onion
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
1 Tbsp parsley
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup shortening or oil for frying (or bake in the oven)
Mix all the ingredients together, shape into one inch balls, and fry until well browned. (Or you can bake them in the oven)
Sauce:
1 bottle (12 oz.) chili sauce (I like Del Monte’s best)
5 oz grape jelly
Heat the chili sauce and jelly until melted. Add meatballs and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes. Makes about 4 dozen small appetizer sized meatballs. (Or you can make larger meatballs to use as a main dish.) They will keep well in a crockpot for the duration of your party.
